South Bend Fire Department

Station 2

South Bend is Indiana's fourth largest city. It is located in between Ft. Wayne and Chicago along I-90 and the Michigan state line. Founded as a full-time department in 1887, South Bend Fire Department now includes 248 firefighters and 11 fire stations. Together they provide Fire, Tactical Rescue, Hazmat and ALS protection to 107,000+ residents in St. Joseph County.

South Bend Fire Station 2 - 402 Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. (US-20)
This beautiful new station was completed in early 2007 just west of downtown along US-20. It was designed to enhance and blend into the architecture of the surrounding neighborhood. The land and expanded station were paid for by the generous purchase of their old property by neighboring Memorial Hospital, who intend to expand their facilities there. Station 2 is home to Engine 2, Battalion 103, Medic 3 and Unit 131/Boat 2.

Engine 2 - 2014 Rosenbauer Commander – 1500gpm/750gal/50gal B foam
This apparatus was one of the second set of Rosenbauer twins purchased by SBFD. The differences between the two pair are that they have a smaller tank, an officer’s side ladder rack instead of a hose bed compartment for the ladders, a topside generator, crosslays under the pump panel and an in-cab compartment between the front and rear seats.

Engine 2 - 2014 Rosenbauer Commander – 1500gpm/750gal/50gal B foam
Engine 2 has a twin at Engine 1. In most cases, brand new engines at SBFD are first assigned as Engines 1 & 2 (the busiest in the city) and their existing engines are rotated to other houses in the greatest need of a new rig.

Medic 3 - 2015 Freightliner M2-106/Medwerks/2004 MedTec
The box of this rig was remounted and previously served Medic 12.

Boat 2 - Smoker Craft - Dive/Swift Water Rescue Boat
SBFD runs two separate rescue boats for Top Water and Dive Rescue within the city of South Bend. The boat from Station 2 is pulled by the former Battalion vehicle, Unit 131 (below).
