Indianapolis Fire Department Station 1 - 1903 West 10th Street
Located just west of downtown and the White River, this firehouse opened on January 5, 1982. It is home to three frontline apparatus and is the primary response station of the Confined Space/Collapse Rescue Team. On July 9, 2016 this firehouse was named in honor of Chief Joseph Kimbrew, the first African American Chief at IFD. Station 1 was historically the only station in which African-American firefighters were assigned during the time when segregation was still prevalent.

Engine 1 - 2009 Ferrara Inferno Custom Pumper (#H-4262) - 2000gpm/500gal/40gal Foam
This apparatus entered service on August 18, 2009 replacing a 15-year old engine. Engine 1 was one of three identical custom pumpers delivered in July 2009. The other two were assigned to Engines 18 and 24.

Ladder 1 - 2008 Pierce Arrow XT 105' Rear-mount Ladder
Ladders 1 and 31 became the 3rd and 4th Pierce Aerials in the IFD fleet when the twin trucks were delivered in early 2009.

Ladder 1 replaced a 1996 Tower Ladder (seen at the bottom of this page).

Ladder 1 is shown on-scene at a working 2nd Alarm+ Apartment fire on the city's northwest side in February 2009.

Tactical 1 - 2004 Ferrara Inferno Custom walk-around Heavy Rescue
Tactical-1 arrives on scene with everything necessary for advanced trench rescue operations. It responds throughout Marion County and has assisted with rescue operations in surrounding counties as well.
