Thorntown/Sugar Creek Township
Volunteer Fire Department

Thorntown is located 45 miles northwest of Indianapolis at the crossroad of IN-47 and IN-75 in northwestern Boone County. Thorntown VFD was established in 1891 with Sugar Creek Township established in 1941. This all-volunteer department includes 29 members who provide Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to 1,600 residents and 33.6 square miles of Thorntown and surrounding Sugar Creek Township. In 1961, the department signed a contract to provide fire protection for Washington Township as well.

Station
Thorntown Fire Station - 401 N Pearl St.
Although separate entities for technical and funding reasons, Thorntown and Sugar Creek operate as a single department. This
firehouse is fairly hidden in the middle of a residential area on the city's northside. It was purcahsed by the Township in 1969 and
is currently home to all 8 Thorntown apparatus. However, a second station is being built on SR75 on the southside of town.
