Volunteer Fire Department


The Town of Schnellville is located 135 miles SSE of Indianapolis along I-64 in eastern Dubois County. Organized in 1951, the 24 members of this all-volunteer department respond to approximately 40 runs each year. SVFD provides Fire, Rescue and Medical First-Responder protection to 35 square miles including 1/2 of Jefferson Township and the Town of Schnellville.

From 1951 until 1965, this department only had a trailer pump that was pulled be members vehicles, and no firehouse at all!
