The Town of Akron is located 80 miles north of Indianapolis along IN-6 in northern Fulton County. This all-volunteer department included 21 members who respond from a single station just west of Akron. AHTFD provides Fire, Rescue and Medical BLS protection to 36 square miles including the Town of Akron and all of Henry Township.

Like many departments in the state, the apparatus was purchased by either the town or township and was intended for use in either specific area. While the funding for this department in now joined, certain rigs are still first-due for either the Town or Township.
Engine 1 - 2005 Freightliner M2/Seagrave Pumper - 1500gpm/1000gal This apparatus is first-due for all incidents.
Rescue 1 - 1995 Freightliner FL80/Superior Medium Rescue (#SE1508)
This apparatus was purchased in 2005 from Bighorn Fire & Rescue in Exshaw, Alberta, Canada,. This department was located in a mountain pass west of Alberta. Members of it's new department liked the name so much that they decided to keep it on the truck.
Ambulance 0145 - 1997 Ford E-350/AEV
The Ambulance service in Akron is technically a separate entity. However, many fire department members also serve as the volunteer crew for this unmanned ambulance. A full-time ALS Ambulance crew is available at nearby Silver Lake when needed.
