The City of East Chicago is located just 21 miles southeast of Chicago along Lake Michigan. It includes a mix of residential, commercial and industrial properties. East Chicago is home to Inland Steel, one of the largest steel production facilities in the US. It is also home to one of the largest BP oil refineries in the country. East Chicago's career department includes more than 100 firefighters that respond to Fire, Hazmat and Tactical Rescue and EMS from 4 stations. East Chicago protects more than 35,000 residents over 18 square miles.

Station 2 is located in a heavily industrial section of the city near Inland Steet and the waterfront.
This 2-bay, drive-though station house is home to Engine 2 and Rescue 1.

Rescue 1 responds to extrications and technical rescues throughout the city. This sharp rig is an enormous rolling tool box.
It is stocked with all of the equipment necessary for quick action, regardless of the type of Rescue call.

At the suggestion of their Captain and Assistant.Chief, three round logos on Rescue 1's side doors reflect the old mascots and
logos of the three East Chicago High Schools that have now merged into one. Rescue 1 is staffed by two proud crew members
on each shift that are specially trained in Tactical Rescue and Hazardous Materials response.
