Indiana Fire Trucks: Gary Fire Department

	Gary Fire Department Stations 1-3 Located 29 miles southeast of Chicago along Lake Michigan, Gary is the largest fire department in northwest Indiana. Gary's 14 Stations protect 125,000 residents over 53 square miles.


Gary Fire Department Station 1 - Headquarters - 200 East 5th Avenue Gary Station 1 is home to Engine 1, Truck 1, Medic 401 and Battalion 1 as well as the department's adminstrative offices.


Engine 1 - 2000 Ferrara Inferno Custom Pumper - 1500gpm/500gal Gary runs 6 of these identical Special Edition Inferno pumpers including Engines 1,2,3,4, 8 and 9. Truck 7 was also received as part of this order.


Truck 1 - 2007 American LaFrance Eagle 110' Rear-mount ladder - 2000gpm/300gal Truck 1 became the first American LaFrance rig at the department in nearly 30 years.

Former Truck 1 - 1989 Seagrave 110' Rear-mount ladder After years of heavy use, Truck 1 was retired from service in early 2006. It was replaced in April of 2007 with the similarly configured American LaFrance Eagle 110' rear-mount stick shown above. It then re-entered service in late 2008 as Truck 4 when their truck was in a serious accident.


Station 2 - 1620 Adams Street - "Midtown" This firehouse is located just south of downtown and protects the central portion of Gary.

Engine 2 - "Midtown Express" - 2000 Ferrara Inferno Custom Pumper - 1500gpm/500gal Engine 2 shares a station with Battalion 4 and Squad Company 2.


Squad 2 - 1992 Pierce Dash/2000 Ferrara walk-in Heavy Rescue w/Command Cab Squad Co. 2 continues to be the busiest apparatus in the department, responding on all extrications, tactical rescues and 10-75's. It has also been run out of the city to assist nearby volunteer departments with advanced tactical rescues and hazardous materials calls.

The current Squad 2 has had quite a history. This truck started as Rescue 2 in 1993 running from Station 1. In 1996 GFD moved the truck to Station 4 and renamed it Squad 4. In February 2000, Squad 4 was in a serious accident which required the box to be rebuilt by Ferrara. When it returned to service, the new Station 2 was complete and the truck was reassigned as Squad 2.


Battalion 4 - 2003 Ford Explorer Command Vehicle In 2008 Battalion 4 was reassigned to run out of Station 2.


Gary Fire Department Gary Fire Department Station 3 - Tolleston Built in 1912, Station 3 is Gary's oldest active firehouse.


Engine 3 - 2000 Ferrara Inferno Custom Pumper - 1500gpm/500gal


Engine 3, Truck 4 and Medic 404 respond to a serious MVA with entrapment in March 2005.


In September 2001, Code 3 Collectibles created this detailed replica of GFD Engine 3. With only 3,000 produced, it has unfortunately been sold-out for years.
