Indiana Fire Trucks: Gary Fire Department

	Gary Fire Department Stations 7-9 Located 29 miles southeast of Chicago along Lake Michigan, Gary is the largest fire department in northwest Indiana. Gary's 14 Stations protect approximately 103,000 residents over nearly 75 square miles.


Gary Fire Department Station 7 - Miller Area Station 7 is home to Engine, Truck and Battalion 7


Tower Ladder 7 - 2000 Ferrara Inferno 100' Rear-mount platform - 2000gpm/250gal Tower Ladder 7 is the only platform ladder in the department and covers the Miller area on the east side of Gary. This apparatus has been out of service since an electrical fire damaged much of the engine and hydraulics in the cab in 2008. While it is being rebuilt by the department, it may not be in service for some time and has not been replaced by another ladder company.


Engine 7 - 1989 Seagrave J-Cab Custom Pumper - 1250gpm/500gal Engine 7 is the last active Seagrave apparatus in the department.


Former Ladder 7 - 1989 LTI Olympian ST-2000 100' Tower #8806521 - 1500gpm/300gal Delivered on 11/3/1989, this rig formerly served at Station 7 before being replaced by the current Ferrara Unit. Ladder Tower 7 was retired from the department's reserve fleet in 2005 and was destroyed when a fire consumed the Gary Fire Department Maintenace facilities in December 2006.


Gary Fire Department Station 8 - 2800 West 5th Avenue Built in the 1940's, this two bay station houses Engine 8, Medic 408 and Battalion 8



Engine 8 - 2000 Ferrara Inferno Custom Pumper - 1500gpm/500gal In 2000 six Limited Edition Ferrara Pumpers along with Tower 7 were purchased for use across the city. These new trucks replaced mostly older Seagrave apparatus.

Former Medic 408 - Ford F-350/Excellance Gary responds to more than 26,000 Medical Calls each year. The department currently has 6 ALS Ambulances along with a Paramedic Supervisor (Unit 500) and an EMS Chief (Unit 400) on each shift.


Gary Fire Department Station 9 - 761 Clark Road - Brunswick Area Station 9 is a single engine house on the city's west side.
