Fire Department The City of Hammond is located just 20 miles southeast of Chicago in Lake County. It is located in the farthest NW point in the state and includes a mix of residential, industrial and commercial buildings. Hammond 's career department includes 180 firefighters that respond to Fire, Hazmat, Tactical Rescue, and ALS calls from 7 fire stations. HFD protects 83,000+ residents over 27 square miles. |

4 - "The Big House" - 6110 Calumet Avenue Station 4 serves as Hammond FD Headquarters. It is home to Engine, Truck, Rescue and Ambulance 4 as well as the Assistant Chief and a reserve engine. |

walk-through Heavy Rescue R4 carries equipment for auto extrications, confined space rescue and high-angle/rope rescue. From HFD's central station, Rescue 4 responds as the second due apparatus all over Hammond for Tactical Rescues and entrapments. |
