Indianapolis Fire Department Station 20 - 1452 North Emerson Avenue - Eastside
Opened: September 18, 1952
Station 20 is one of several Engine/Ladder stations that are trained as an "Extrication Task Force." Task Forces carry
the necessary equipment for auto extrications and may respond beyond their primary districts to serve this need.

Ladder 20 is one of three identical short-wheel-base ALF aerials in service at IFD (along with Ladders 4 & 29). A similarly
configured 75' model also serves Ladder 30. In 2008, IFD actually ran 6 different ladder configurations depending on the needs
of each station location.

Engine 20 burn
In May of 2007, Engine 20 was sent to the IFD shops for repairs related to electrical issues inside the cab. Over the weekend,
the electrical system malfunctioned and started a fire which quickly engulfed Engine 20's cab. Luckily, the shops sprinkler
system prevented the fire from spreading to two apparatus on either side of the Engine. While the back of this apparatus was unharmed, the cab was a total loss. The department considered various options to repair or re-chassis the truck, however, it did
not prove financially feasible. After some time spent in various reserve apparatus, Engine Company 20 was assigned Engine 13's
former engine and will likely stay in that apparatus until the next round of Engines are replaced.
