The City of Mount Vernon is located along the Ohio River at the crossroads of IN-62 and IN-69 in southern Posey County. Organized in 1880, the current 7 full-time and 12 volunteer members of this combination department now respond to 500 runs each year. MVFD provides Fire, Rescue and Medical First-Responder protection to the 7,000 residents within the City of Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon City Hall & Fire Station - Main & 6th Streets The Mount Vernon City Hall was originally built in 1893 and serves as both the police and fire stations. An addition was
completed on the back in the 1950's to house additional apparatus. The department's current day room and sleeping facilities for the full-time firefighters were converted from the old horse stalls from back in the horse-drawn days.

E-4 carries a full set of Hurst and Rescue Tech extrication tools including a rams, cutters, Jaws, spreaders, and air bags. It
responds on all vehicle accident and extrication calls.
Mount Vernon's City Hall & firehouse continues to be home to all four MVFD frontline apparatus.
