Fire Department

The city of Winchester is located along IN-32 in central Randolph County. Established in 1952, White River Township provides Fire and Medical First-Responder protection to 70 square miles and Rescue response to 220 square miles. This combination department includes one full-time firefighter 24/7. EMS protection is provided by the county.

Rescue 718 - 1986 International/American Eagle Light Rescue
R-718 is first-due for accident and extrication calls at White River. This truck was purchased from a department in Florida where it previously served as an air support truck, Air-15. Department members then stripped out the air tanks, cascade, system and diesel generator and setup the truck for their own needs. This included adding a pump, water tank and numerous tool compartments.

Rescue 718 - 1986 International/American Eagle Light Rescue - 350gpm/500gal
R-718 is equipped with Lucas Rescue Tools including a ram, spreaders, cutters and high-pressure air bags with 2 sets of
controls. This truck also carries spare air bottles, a portable generator, lights, chocks and blocks for cribbing, 1st responder
medical equipment, backboards, hand-operated spreaders and wedges and telescoping scene lighting.

Grass Rig 715 - 1986 GMC 4x4 Pickup - 150gpm/250gal
715 is first due for grass and /brush fires as well as all medical responses. Oftentimes being a volunteer department requires
making the most of available resources. This rig came to the WRTFD along with Command 719 in 2008. Both of these
trucks were available through Indiana's Department of Natural Resources. The DNR has a running inventory list of former
military vehicles that are made available to interested departments. If choosen, each truck stays with the department for 5 years
afterwhich it now becomes department property. Both of these vehicles were repainted and refurbished by department members.

Command 719 - 1986 GMC Blazer 4x4 Diesel
719 will be used by the department as a Command Vehicle for larger incidents. It can also be used to transport manpower
for mutual-aid calls when requested.
